Leake Street's new games bar Passyunk Play

20 th November 2024

Everyone’s favourite American dive bar Passyunk Avenue just got even more fun with the launch of a new dedicated games bar Passyunk Play!

Named after the iconic street in Philadelphia where it is said that the Philadelphia Cheesesteak was born, Passyunk Avenue is an all-American Philly-themed bar located in the Leake Street graffiti tunnel below Waterloo Station.

Famous for their dedication to screening all the biggest American sporting clashes (they even host an annual Super Bowl tailgate party!), Passyunk Avenue is a bar that puts games front and centre. From the NFL to the NHL, baseball, basketball and of course the Olympics, the bar proudly screens all the biggest US sports events, with an emphasis placed, of course, on screening matches involving teams from Philadelphia.

Taking the authentic all-American dive bar vibes up another notch, and keeping things very much with the sporting theme, in November 2024 Passyunk Avenue expanded into the neighbouring railway arch on Leake Street to launch Passyunk Play - a new space dedicated to American bar sports.

In addition to the time-honoured Passyunk Avenue favourites like shuffleboard and cornhole, the expansive new Passyunk Play space also has a pool table, foosball tables, air hockey, ping pong, darts and even baseball batting cages.

The batting cages use the same pitching machine and ball-tracking telemetry that are used in US high schools and colleges with the latest in ball-tracking technology and software meaning that the gameplay can be scaled up, or down, to suit everyone’s batting ability, from baseball pro to first-timer. Advanced booking is recommended for the batting cages. 30 minutes costs £25 (ideal for a group of 2-4 people), or walk-ins can play at £5 per 5-minute increment. Book a batting cage here.

To keep you going through an afternoon and evening of games you can feast on the same authentic Philly street food that have made Passyunk Avenue such a popular bar with London's US expat community. Make sure to try the mouthwatering wings and their famous Philly Cheesesteak - even US football mega-stars Jason and Travis Kelce declared the Passyunk cheesesteak a bonafide winner!

When it comes to drinks in addition to its own dedicated bar counter, Passyunk Play also has a ‘self-serve beer wall’, while you can also flow back next door into the original Passyunk Avenue bar and restaurant area. Game on!

When’s it open?

Passyunk Play is open 12pm–12:30am (last drinks at 12am), Fri & Sat 12pm-1:30am (last drinks at 1am). Find out more about Passyunk Play and book a table here.
