Dry January drinks in South Bank

09 th January 2025

Whether you always opt for alcohol-free or you're a sober-curious type looking to take a break from the booze, it's never been easier to find great alcohol-free options to try on a night out.

From award-winning mixologist-made mocktails, to local low-and no-alcohol craft beers, here's a look at some great places to grab a Dry January drink in South Bank this year.

Nirvana at The Understudy

This Dry January KERB's The Understudy bar at National Theatre has teamed up with the UK's only alcohol-free brewery, east London's Nirvana Beer Company. Nirvana will be hosting a tap takeover at the bar with all of their biggest brews available on tap throughout January including a pale ale, amber ale and the brewery's signature Pils (all 0.5% abv). There's also a special party at the bar on Friday 17 January (from 7pm) with a taste test challenge and plenty of prizes to be won.

Punk AF at BrewDog

BrewDog Waterloo at The Sidings next to Waterloo Station is one of Europe’s biggest bars and a flagship location for the famous BrewDog brewery brand. BrewDog's signature alcohol-free beer is the Punk AF, a juicy, tropical, 0.5% Indian Pale Ale, described as having “grassy, pine notes on a solid malt baseline”. To celebrate Dry January and encourage more drinkers to give alcohol-free a try, for every regular beer you order, you'll get a Punk AF on the house this month.

Dry January at Draughts

Throughout January the quirky board games bar Draughts on Leake Street is making quiet nights out with mates and board games even more tempting with a special alcohol-free gaming offer. Throughout January from just £12.50 guests can enjoy off-peak gaming access to the bar plus their choice of alcohol-free drink!

There are literally hundreds of board games to choose from, while the alcohol-free drinks menu is also impressive with a wide choice of options ranging from Lucky Saint to luxury hot chocolates, hibiscus cream soda, lemongrass coolers and blue match lemonade. Find out more and book here.

Boozeless cocktails at Lyaness

Lyaness at the Sea Containers London hotel is one of London's leading cocktail bars and its latest cocktail menu, the groundbreaking 3.0 Cookbook won 2024's 50 Best Bars award for the Best Cocktail Menu. One of the things that makes founder and creative head bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana's 3.0 Cookbook so special is its balance of creativity with accessibility, and an innovative 'mad-scientist' approach to flavours and ingredients.

Those who don't drink alcohol need not miss out on the Lyaness magic with several of the cocktails available as 'boozeless' options, including the Kellogs cornflakes inspired Forbidden Cola and the ingenious Faux Fruit Sour. Happily the boozeless pricing also feels fair and reflective, with booze-free cocktails costing approximately half the price of the original alcoholic version.

Blackberry sours and pineapple picantes at Wahaca

Especially for Dry January the colourful Mexican street food restaurant Wahaca has given their non-alcoholic drinks menu a revamp. 2024's special mocktail the Blackberry Sour (blackberry, basil, apple cider vinegar, avocado leaf and rosemary, £5.50) is now a permanent fixture, while a new addition for Dry January 2025 is the Passion Fruit & Pineapple Picante (£5.50), a fiery and fruity number shaken with fresh chilli and coriander.

2-4-1 mocktails at The Curling Club

The Curling Club is a fun apres-ski-themed winter pop-up beneath Hungerford Bridge next to the Southbank Centre. The cosy chalet hosts half a dozen ice-free curling lanes and a bar serving beers, wine, cocktails and Alpine-inspired street food. In celebration of Dry January all Curling Club cocktails are no 2-4-1! Options include Strawberry Bellini, No No-jito and the Fruitstar.
