Watching Wimbledon on a giant screen from the comfort of a deckchair is a classic London summer experience, and this year South Bank boasts two free big screens where you can keep your eye on all the action from the All England Club.
Following the success of their Wimbledon screen debut last year, National Theatre's big screen is back once again this July. You can find it outside the Understudy where there's also plenty of food trucks for grabbing lunch and of course a Pimm's pop-up bar to keep you hydrated.
If the one thing that puts you off watching on the big screens is the lack of shade, then you are in luck with this huge new screen that's popping up in the cool and shady surrounds of Casson Square in South Bank Place (just behind Jubilee Gardens and around the corner from the Waterloo tube station.
Surrounding the square is a variety of popular cafes and takeaway spots for grabbing lunch and a smoothie to enjoy while you watch, including: Joe and the Juice, The Black Penny cafe, Starbucks, Pret, Paris Baguette, Leon and the super popular salad bar atis.
When: From Thu 2 July to Sat 5 July
Popping up for three days only, South Bank also has another Wimbledon big screen turning up for the first weekend of the tournament, sponsored by IBM, where they will also be showing the British Grand Prix.
Dubbed 'The AI Sports Club', in addition to the big screen showing there sports, this immersive, high-tech pop-up fan zone features a host of other free activities including: 'Hyperlap', an immersive Formula 1-style racing simulator, 'Calling the Shots', a proprietary table tennis experience that turns a physical game into a data-driven broadcast and 'Reaction Test' which is designed to replicate the split-second decision-making required by Formula 1 drivers.
