BFI IMAX, Charlie Chaplin Walk, London, UK

The BFI IMAX is one of the only IMAX cinemas in the world with the capacity to project IMAX films on 70mm, and it goes without saying that the 70mm screenings of Christopher Nolan’s take on Homer’s epic are something extra special!

Tickets for the first weeks of screenings sold out almost immediately, and an unprecedented demand from viewers has now seen the cinema selling out all of 173 of its 70mm IMAX screenings throughout August and into September!

Christopher Nolan held the world premiere of his latest masterpiece here at the BFI IMAX, and the director has said that it was his own early experiences of watching films here that inspired him to pursue the use of IMAX cameras in all of his films.

As for the film itself, it is truly epic in every sense of the word!

Quite simply, this is the film event of the year.

When are more tickets to watch The Odyssey at BFI IMAX going on sale?

The film's original three-week run at the BFI IMAX almost entirely sold out within a matter of hours, and subsequent extra weeks have been added and sold out in similar quick fashion. The film is now on a record-breaking run and demand to see it in 70mm IMAX is extraordinary – and does not look set to die down any time soon!

We will continue to add details on extra screenings to this page as they are announced.

New screening dates are typically (although not exclusively!)  announced on Friday afternoons.

How to get to the BFI IMAX

Located inside the Waterloo Bridge traffic circle, the entrance to the BFI IMAX is not immediately obvious! The cinema is in fact accessed via several underpasses that are not immediately obvious at street level

The quickest, most convenient and direct underpass to reach the BFI IMAX is via the stairs at the corner of York Road and Concert Hall Approach Road.

How to get to BFI IMAX from Waterloo Tube station

Follow the signs underground for the South Bank and exit onto York Road. Look to your left and you will see the round BFI IMAX structure in the middle of the traffic circle. The stairs down into the IMAX on Concert Hall Approach are just after the railway arch.

How to get to BFI IMAX from Waterloo train station

If arriving in South Bank by train, get off at Waterloo Station and exit the station via The Victory Arch exit. Follow the road down out of the arch to the zebra crossing on York Road. You will see the BFI IMAX in the middle of the traffic circle to your right. Cross the zebra crossing and turn right and you will meet the stairs down to the IMAX on Concert Hall Approach Road.
