2025 marks the 500th birthday of the ‘Arundel’ or ‘Lambeth’ Choirbook (Arundel, Sussex, c. 1525). One of only two surviving choirbooks from the reign of King Henry VIII, the beautifully illustrated choirbook is an extremely important source for early English polyphonic music and has been held in Lambeth Palace Library since the 17th century.
This year Lambeth Palace Library is hosting a special exhibition to mark the book’s quincentenary.
The free exhibition, 'Sing Joyfully', sees the historic Choirbook going on display alongside other interesting and unusual musical holdings from the library's incredible collection, including two leaves of 14th Century polyphony that were recently discovered in the binding of an early printed book.s
