Go behind the scenes at Lambeth Palace Library on one of three guided tours happening for free on Saturday 3 February.

The state-of-the-art Lambeth Palace Library is the home of the national library and archive of the Church of England. Containing thousands of historic books, manuscripts and other documents collected by the Archbishops of Canterbury, the library’s astonishing collection includes some of the oldest printed books in the world.

The purpose-designed Library building adjoining the historic Lambeth Palace (the official home of the Archbishop of Canterbury) is an impressive space that includes a public reading room, exhibition spaces, and the high-tech Care Collections Studio where ancient manuscripts are preserved and restored.

On this special free guided tour visitors will get the opportunity to hear more about the library’s work, learn about their latest exhibitions and go behind-the-scenes to see the Collections Care team at work. The tour also includes a visit to the library’s impressive 8th-floor roof terrace where you can enjoy a fantastic view over the river to the House of Parliament.

There are three tours taking place: at 10:30am, 12pm and 2pm. All guided tours are free although you must book in advance as space is limited.
