This unique exhibition celebrates the centuries-old musical treasures held in the Lambeth Palace Library collections.
Placing better-known holdings alongside lesser-known volumes and fragments, highlights from this special exhibition include the immense, beautifully coloured Arundel Choirbook (one of the most important records of Tudor polyphonic music); Sion College’s illuminated York Breviary from the 15th century and musical texts dating back as far as the 11th Century.
Other remarkable treasures on display include the sermon notes pertinent to the composition of the hymn “Amazing Grace” which celebrates its 250th anniversary this year and one of only two known surviving copies of John Wesley's volume of Anglican-Methodist hymns.
A fascinating collection of items that is sure to impress anybody with an interest in choral music, the exhibition is viewed to an in-gallery soundtrack of performances of the music detailed in the books.
