BFI Christmas films

What better way to get in the festive spirit – and escape the chilly weather for a few hours – than by heading to the cinema to watch a Christmas classic?! As ever, December’s Christmas film season at the BFI includes plenty of festive favourites, both old and new.

Among the many highlights on this year's lineup are iconic old-school classics such as: Meet Me in St Louis,  Scrooge, The Apartment and It's A Wonderful Life (multiple screenings between 18 and 23 Dec), as well as family favourites such as The Muppet Christmas Carol (5 and 20 Dec) and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (12 and 19 Dec).

Other festive season films showing at the BFI this December include Love Actually (15 Dec post-film Q&A with Richard Curtis, and 19 Dec), the gorgeous Japanese anime Tokyo Godfathers (21 and 23 Dec), the witty and romantic The Preacher's Wife (18 and 19 Dec), the swooningly beautiful Carol (18-23 Dec), and for young audiences there is a Sunday Funday family screening of Mog's Christmas and Mog's Bad Thing (Sun 13 Dec).

Meanwhile, at the biggest cinema screen in Britain, the epic BFI IMAX, there are even more festive screenings lined up, including The Polar Express, in IMAX 3D and Powell & Pressburger's magnificent Red Shoes.
