In March 2026 this beautiful green space perched on top of the Brutalist Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre was declared by TimeOut as London's Best Rooftop Bar 2026. According to TimeOut: "the bar itself is pretty unobtrusive, set in an old shipping container, and serving wine, botany-inspired cocktails and craft beers, as well as a couple of snacky bits, but it’s the sprawling green space that really makes this spot stand out.
Home to over 200 wild native plants, a luscious lawn and gorgeous views across the river, this is an ideal spot to spend a quiet afternoon lost in a book, or to meet up for drinks with friends before a show.
The garden, originally a partnership with the Eden Project, was built and continues to be maintained by volunteers from Grounded EcoTherapy, a group that offers people dealing with issues like homelessness and recovery from addiction help and support through horticulture.
A surprisingly lush space, the rooftop garden offers plenty of seating under the shade of fruit trees and among the more than 200 native plant species that grow here.
There is a small café-bar counter housed in a reused shipping container that serves a variety of refreshments, including wines, craft beers, summer cocktails and soft drinks plus loaded flatbreads and small bites for snacking on.
Note that the Roof Garden may be closed during bad weather and is also occasionally used for private events.
