One of the most picturesque corners of South Bank, take a stroll down by the water while admiring the views across to St Pauls and Oxo Tower on this tidal beach.

Popular with dog walkers, mud larkers and anyone else looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Central London, this stretch of the Thames river shoreline is truly unique.

The beach was named after local resident John 'Ernie' Hearn, who successfully campaigned for the recognition of the Thames as an asset and amenity of London, and against the reclamation of the foreshore by private property developments.

Note that the Thames river tide moves by a remarkable 4 metres in height. It is vital that you pay attention to the tide timetables and heed any warnings from security about impending movements of the tide.
