The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge has unveiled an epic 10-foot tall gingerbread house made from half a ton of dough!
Boasting more than 1,000 rooms, South Bank's Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel is one of the biggest in the city. In keeping with the hotel's immense stature, this year they've upped the ante on the Christmas decorations with a dedicated team of pastry chefs working tirelessly to build London's biggest gingerbread house!
Installed in the hotel lobby, the 10-foot tall house has taken seven weeks to complete, using some 600kg of dough. Led by Head Pastry Chef, Domenico Camporeale, the pastry team created an incredible 3,500 individually baked gingerbread bricks.
These bricks were then carefully built around a specially engineered frame to create a 129-square-foot gingerbread house that reaches right up to the ceiling of the lobby, and that is so big visitors can even sit inside it.
Keeping things festive, the delicious structure is also adorned with mountains of sugary decorations including festive royal icing, fluffy marshmallows and plenty of candy canes.
Not only is this London’s largest gingerbread house, it is possibly the only one you can actually go inside and take a seat too.
The interior is cosily decorated with a Christmas tree, (fake) fireplace and plush armchair to set the scene, while outside the door there’s even a classic red post box where guests can post their season's greetings from South Bank.
