Adjoining the top contemporary art gallery the Hayward Gallery, this café is ideally located for pre- or post-exhibition refreshments. Occupying a corner spot in this landmark Brutalist building, large windows look out across Waterloo Bridge to the river Thames and there’s also a small terrace.
Inside the walls are covered in the vibrant pink, red and yellow artwork of Taiwanese artist Michael Lin. Commissioned especially for the space by Southbank Centre, Lin’s colourful floral wallpaper features a repeated and overlaid plum blossom motif that is typically used in traditional Taiwanese, Chinese and Japanese textile designs.
The cafe serves a classic menu of sandwiches and pastries including lots of vegetarian options.
