One of London's most celebrated contemporary art galleries, the Hayward Gallery presents the most innovative and adventurous international art exhibitions, hosting three to four major temporary exhibitions per year.
Since opening in July 1968, this iconic Brutalist building has stood at the forefront of London's contemporary art scene and consistently shows the work of some of the world's most famous artists. In the last 15 years alone, household names such as Anthony Gormley, Tracey Emin, Bridgette Riley and Louise Bourgeois have all presented exhibitions at the Hayward.
In addition to solo shows dedicated to major artists, the Hayward Gallery also presents landmark group exhibitions that focus on key themes and genres, such as the recent hit exhibitions Strange Clay, devoted entirely to contemporary ceramic art, and the weird and wonderful sculptural show When Forms Come Alive.
After your visit to the gallery, drop into the Hayward Gallery Cafe for coffee and cake with a view over Waterloo Bridge. As you’d expect, the surroundings are visually appealing too!
The Hayward Gallery Shop is also highly recommended. Shop from a beautiful collection of exclusive artist-designer collaborations, unique ceramics, textiles, prints and jewellery, as well as a brilliant selection of art books.
