Flat Iron Southbank officially opens on 4 April 2025
Facing out onto Southbank Centre Square at the back of the Royal Festival Hall (where the weekly Southbank Centre Food Market takes place), Flat Iron is a 220-cover steak restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.
The restaurant is led by (and named after) the ‘Flat Iron’ steak, a cut sourced from the feather blade and renowned for its flavour, tenderness and juiciness. Flat Iron's slim menu also features a rotating board of blackboard specials, including Wagyu daily specials, Scottish bavette and triple cheese truffle burger, all made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire.
The Flat Iron mantra is “Remarkable steak, accessible to all”. For those who find too many choices overwhelming, Flat Iron is a breath of fresh air with just one main steak on offer (the Flat Iron cut – although you can also opt for one of the daily specials). You can then choose whichever sauces and sides you would like – or opt for a meat-only meal if you wish. Sides include Flat Iron’s popular beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash.
If you’re still hungry for something sweet, dessert – a homemade vanilla soft serve – is on the house!
Outside, on the Southbank Centre Square beneath the concert hall’s wide overhanging balcony, there's a spacious terrace with heated umbrellas, planting and festoon lights. Meanwhile, inside a large, central bar divides the space into two - the brighter bar seating area at the front, and the main dining area at the back.
