The annual Waterloo Festival is back, taking over the St John’s Waterloo church opposite Waterloo Station for a busy weekend of live music, performances, exhibitions, installations, storytelling, talks, poetry readings and workshops.
The festival places a strong emphasis on bringing together and celebrating Waterloo’s diverse communities and many of the events on the programme are free.
Highlights of this year’s festival programme include:
FRI 12 July 8–10:30pm
IKLECTIK: Oren Ambarchi + Félicia Atkinson
10th anniversary concert with ambient and electronic music by Oren Ambarchi and Félicia Atkinson. Tickets £22.50.
SUN 14 July 1pm–4pm
Jazz at St John’s Churchyard
An afternoon of jazz, blues and grooves in one of Waterloo's most beautiful gardens presented by the Unity Music Arts Team. Entrance is free!
SUN 14 July 7pm–9pm
New London Chamber Choir: I Hear the Rain
A concert of new and recent music for choir and cello featuring one of the most outstanding choirs of contemporary works. Tickets from £16.
MON 15 July 6pm–7:30pm
Youthspace: Make Music with Alchemy
Professional artist and music mentor K.V.S (King Vito Speaks) and Alchemy Masters Refrain (Omar Elsaaidi) and Tboy (Timothy Wairama) showcase the work created during their recent community workshop series. Entrance is free!
FRI 12 July 6–8pm
Book launch: Generous Faith
Canon Giles Goddard launches his latest book, chronicling his journey as a gay priest and vicar in Waterloo. Entrance is free.
SAT 13 July 7:30pm–9pm
Storytelling: Secret Garden Stories
Emily Hanna and Aaron Oliver from London Dreamtime lead the open-air Secret Garden Stories evening. Entrance is free.
The London Group presents a garden sculpture show, there’s also an exhibition of new paintings from the Drummond Street Artists and printmaking and sculpture exhibitions from Morley College London. Entrance to all exhibitions is free.
