Southbank Centre is puttin' on the ritz this festive season with a dazzling staging of Irving Berlin's classic musical Top Hat.
Based on the 1935 film starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat is an all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the glitz and glamour of old school Hollywood.
After arriving in London to open a new show, Jerry Travers meets model Dale Tremont. He is instantly smitten and vows to abandon his bachelor lifestyle. But love is never that easy... Particularly when Dale has mistaken Jerry for someone else and her own fiery Italian admirer is planning a trip to Venice for her to showcase his couture gowns.
Unforgettable tracks like Cheek to Cheek, Let’s Face the Music and Dance, Top Hat, White Tie and Tails and Puttin’ on the Ritz are set to the choreography of acclaimed American director and choreographer Kathleen Marshall, whose Tony and Olivier Award-winning production of Anything Goes recently wowed audiences and critics.
