In an area that offers so much to see and do, it is easy to overlook some of South Bank's most intriguing features.
For this edition of our free South Bank Walks series, Geoff Fairbairn from the Lambeth Tour Guides Association will be leading a guided walk tour along the riverside promenade, exploring how South Bank's many bridges have changed and evolved over time.
Until 1750 the only means of crossing the Thames from the South Bank area was by boat. Since then more than a dozen bridges have spanned the river, more than half of which have since been replaced or removed altogether.
Taking a stroll along the embankment, this guided walking tour explores the stories of South Bank's many bridges – both the famous and the forgotten - and throws in a ferry or two for good measure!
