This Valentine's Day the Royal Festival Hall hosts a seductive evening of music from American and Latin American composers performed by the Philharmonia under conductor Marin Alsop.
The evening begins with Gershwin's Cuban Overture followed by the simmering energy and passion of memorable numbers from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story and Brazilian composer Edu Lobo’s irrepressible Pé de Vento.
Following the interval the second half of the concert is devoted to tango, with Ksenija Sidorova, undisputed queen of the classical accordion, leading in Astor Piazzolla’s Aconcagua Concerto.
Rounding out the evening are UK, European and Middle East Argentine tango champions Iro Davlanti-Lo and Adrien Bariki-Alaoui dancing to two contrasting tangos – the tender and wistful Tanti anni prima (Many Years Ago), and Libertango.
After the concert Iro Davlati-Lo and Adrien Bariki-Alaoui lead a free 45-minute tango dancing workshop in the Clore Ballroom!
