Every month, the BFI Southbank presents a programme of ‘Big Screen Classics’, including beloved, unusual, little-known or multi-award-winning films from across the world, all drawn together under a uniting theme.

Appropriately for the height of summer, August's theme is hotels, with a month of films reflecting on the ways hotels have been portrayed throughout cinema’s history, including films set entirely in hotels, and those with influential scenes that take place in hotels.

Films on the lineup include: Last Laugh (F. W. Murnau, 1924), To Catch A Thief (Alfred Hitchcock, 1955), The Silence (Ingmar Bergman, 1963), The Shining (Stanley Kubrick, 1980), In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar Wai, 2000), and The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson, 2014).
