Don’t miss out! Ancient Grease, the brand-new immersive parody musical by underground theatre maestros The Vaults, is playing until 22 May.
Ancient Grease is a dirty love letter to the hit movie musical Grease, reimagining the iconic characters from the famous film and setting them amongst the Gods of Mount Olympus Academy. The wine will flow, fate will be rewritten, and Grease gets the ending it always deserved!
The Vaults, the creative wizards behind hit sell-out shows such as Mulan Rouge, Stranger Sings and The Witches of Oz, explain that it was time to give Grease’s outdated story of becoming someone else in the desire for acceptance, a refresh.
“As Grease grows older, the love for it grows stronger, so we decided to reimagine the narrative and bring a new message: put your leather catsuit away. Don’t change for anyone.”
Ancient Grease is the Musical-directorial debut for one of London’s most prominent queer creatives, Dan Wye (creator of award-winning cabaret legend Séayoncé, who some might also remember as playing David Bowie in the hit show Peter Pan’s Labyrinth), and the first professional production from emerging writer Lady Aria Grey (star of Mulan Rouge).
Grab your togas and get ready for a spectacularly bawdy camp-riot of a show packed with cracking songs, and hosted in South Bank’s most atmospheric underground venue.
★★★★★ "Full of twists, unexpected jokes and plenty of chaos, it is the kind of show you cannot take your eyes off.” ~Theatre & Tonic
★★★★★ "Ancient Grease is exactly what London fringe theatre does best: queer, clever, anarchic, and irresistibly alive. It’s a love letter to both Grease and Greek mythology, all filtered through a glitter-streaked lens of parody and pleasure” ~The Upcoming
★★★★★ "A night of theatre that feels mischievous, raunchy, and irresistibly fun” ~North West End
