Beyond the great coffee, it's the excellent breakfast that The Black Penny is most famous for with an extensive and delicious menu that has something for everyone.

Even better yet, the cafe is located directly between Waterloo Station and the London Eye making this the ideal place to have a bite before you set out on a day of sightseeing.

Try the Ozdemir Pasha with grilled halloumi, fried eggs, butterbean hummus and sumac with a zing tomato salad on sourdough toast. Or for a sweet start to the day, there's the Brioche French Toast topped with whipped lemon ricotta, black cardamom sugar, blueberry compote and toasted almonds. They also of course serve a classic English breakfast and for something special the 'Black Penny Hashes' are a signature made with a choice of crispy duck, salt beef or wild mushroom and polenta.

The Black Penny also serves an enticing small plates menu (think pan-fried king prawns and sujuk croquettes) and stays open into the evening for enjoying those post-work cocktails.

For private events there's a great private dining area on the mezzanine and if the weather is fine there's plenty of space to sit al fresco.

Christmas dining at The Black Penny

Whether you want to catch up with friends over the festive season, or are looking to book for a lively office party lunch, The Black Penny has you covered. The newly extended space now has a private dining room tucked away on a mezzanine, and a fab new cocktail menu. Alternatively, you can book out the entire space - email southbank@theblackpenny.com to book.

The special Christmas season menu includes an array of delicious festive canapes and small plates, and they're also serving a special festive brunch this season. Festive canapes on the menu include smoked salmon and blini pancakes, mini scotch eggs with sriracha mayo and chicken liver pate on brioche toast with cranberry sauce.

Prices start at £27 for three festive small plates and if you book before 30 November they're also throwing in complimentary prosecco!
