Halfway between Waterloo Station and the South Bank riverside, just a stone's throw from the Royal Festival Hall, The Archduke was among the first restaurant and wine bars to open in South Bank in 1979.

Thoroughly atmospheric and instantly recognisable by its striking location carved from under the railway arches, it has become something of a London institution. Owned and operated by Black and Blue Steakhouse, the menu dishes up fabulous steaks and wines and has a great value pre-theatre menu (two courses available until 7pm).

Food and drinks aside, The Archduke is also well worth visiting for its live jazz performances that take place every evening and on Sunday afternoons.

Christmas at The Archduke

Always a lively and atmospheric South Bank restaurant, this festive season The Archduke presents a delicious three-course feast for its Christmas menu plus bread and olives for the table, a welcome glass of prosecco, and tea or coffee to the end the meal. Options on the menu include chicken live pate with cranberry sauce, Shetland Isles salmon, The Archduke's famous pavé steak and for a dessert a Christmas ice cream sundae.

The special Christmas menu costs £55 per person. Email archduke@blackandbluerestaurants.com or call 020 7928 1913 to book.
