Operated by Fuller’s, the 30-room Mad Hatter pub and hotel is located in one of the few original 19th-century buildings that still stand on this section of Stamford Street. Located just two blocks from the river and Blackfriars Station, it’s a handy spot for anybody visiting London for a spot of sightseeing.
The name The Mad Hatter is derived from the building’s history as a hat factory. This area of Southwark has a long history of hat-making that dates all the way back to the 15th Century. In the mid-19th Century the Tress & Co company established a factory on this site producing Bowler, Topper and Boater hats.
The Mad Hatter hotel building stands out with its classic Palladian-inspired façade complete with tall sash windows, distinctive lamps and iron fencing. Inside the décor still nods to years gone by with an old-fashioned pub and restaurant serving British classics.
