The annual London Craft Week is one of the UK's leading craft events, celebrating the very best of British and international creativity in craft arts.
Showcasing everything from calligraphy and collage to jewellery-making, cobbling, pottery and the delicate Korean art form of Keum–boo, this is an exciting week for anybody with a passion for the art of craftsmanship.
London Craft Week events to look out for in South Bank this year include:
The latest exhibition at County Hall's contemporary ceramic arts gallery presents a collective reassessment of the human presence in clay. Across sculpture, statuary, devotional forms, and porcelain figurines, the exhibition draws on mythic, classical, and domestic traditions, reshaping these familiar forms for the present day.
Also look out for an exhibition launch party (Mon 11 May from 6pm) and a Dinner with the Artists evening (Thu 14 May). The exhibition is on show 12 May to 21 June, open 11am-6pm (closed Mon). Entrance is free.
Coinciding with East Asian cherry blossom festivals celebrating the arrival of spring, during London Craft Week an installation of 4,800 hand-stitched mandus (Korean dumplings) created from hand-dyed organza silk will fill the Garden Museum’s baptistery. As part of the installation there will also be a programme of complementary events and workshops celebrating this Korean art form. The installation will be on show from 28 April to 21 May.
Coinciding with Craft Continuum's tenth year, this exhibition brings together exciting new work by members and invited guests of the contemporary crafting collective, exploring craft as a dynamic and evolving practice. The exhibition brings together a diverse range of disciplines, from luminous glass to hand-thrown ceramics and contemporary jewellery. From 13–17 May, open 11am–6pm.
